I posted about this on my previous blog, but for those of you
who didn't see it, here it is! This is a really fun, creative craft. Have fun!

Here is a photo of three candles that I re-made from old candles. For the first candle (far left) I used a mold that I purchased from Michael's, the middle candle I made a small candle using my below instructions, then applied excess wax to outside of candle with a fork creating the frosted effect. For the third candle I layered dark and light purple wax.

For the first candle (far left) I used a mold that I purchased from Michael's, the middle candle I made a small candle using my below instructions, then applied excess wax to outside of candle with a fork creating the frosted effect. For the third candle I layered dark and light purple wax.
Materials
1. A candle(s) that is no longer used
(or pretty)
2. an aluminum can
3. a saucepan
Instructions
1.With a paring knife peel enough wax into can to make the size of candle desired.
2. Get a wick from a unused candle and place the wick in the mold so that it touches the bottom.
Wrap excess wick around a toothpick (larger item such depending on size of mold used) to hold straight.
3. Place aluminum can in a saucepan which is half filled with water, turn on medium-high and allow to melt.
4. Pour wax into the mold slowly, make sure the wick is staying in the center of the mold.
5. Do Not move or touch mold until wax is mostly dry! If the middle of the candle sinks, pour in more wax after candle is dry.
6. Remove candle from mold after completely dry.
Variations
As you can see from the above pictures I layered two of the candles, this can be done by using two aluminum cans with two different colors. example: pour one layer of dark purple, (allow to dry a little) then pour a layer of lighter purple.

I LOVE you new layout..!!!! Did you build it your self... :o)
What beautiful candles!! And the top photo is amazing! :)
Your new layout is beautiful!!!!
Candle-making looks like lots of fun! I love the way you've done a video thing to show the candle flickering...
Oh and I also love your new layout! The blueness kinda suits your name just right :)
Katie, I found the original layout off a site, it was pretty plain so I changed the colors, header and made my own picture links. So, I guess I did "build" it. *smile* I'm glad you like it!
That looks like a fun project. The top picture is neat. I like how the candle actually looks like it's burning...is that a video?
Wow! They look great! Sounds like fun too!
I didn't vote in your poll because I don't have a complete yes or no answer. I like your new layout for the most part, but I also would like to see more "pops" of color around. I think if you want to keep the gray background for your header, then the photos should be in color. Or at least somewhat softer in color... if that makes sense. I also think the left column is a little too sparsely filled so it seems a teeny bit imbalanced. You don't have to publish this comment, and I hope you won't take offense at it! I'm not trying to sound overly critical or anything like that!!! I can tell you've worked very hard on it, and it's looking good! :o)
What a neat idea! I'll have to file that away in my "things to try" folder. :o)
What a good use for used candles, Amy! Yours look very nice. :) Thank you for sharing how to make them!
By the way, how did you get the first photo/video(?) to flicker? That is cool!
Grace and Jennifer,
The photo of the candle that flickers, is a HTML photo. I copied and pasted the HTML of the photo from a web-site into my post. I'm not sure how whoever designed it made it flicker, but it does look neat doesn't it? :)
